1. Contents of General Standards for Textiles

  • Fabric composition labeling: The material of the clothing needs to be marked, such as cotton, polyester, blended fabrics, etc. This helps consumers understand the basic composition of the product, especially for people who are allergic to certain materials, so as to avoid buying products that are not suitable for them.2

  • Washing instructions

    • Machine wash, hand wash, dry cleaning instructions: Clearly indicate whether it can be machine washed, hand washed or dry cleaned. For example, some delicate clothes may only be suitable for hand washing and not machine washing. If you mistakenly machine wash them, it may damage the clothes.2

    • Water temperature requirements: The specific water temperature requirements must be marked. Different materials are suitable for different water temperatures. For example, silk clothes usually need to be washed at low temperatures. Too high water temperatures may cause shrinkage or fading.2

    • Bleach Instructions: Indicates whether bleach can be used and the recommended type of bleach. Some clothes will destroy their color or the performance of the material after using bleach, so this label is critical2

  • Drying method label: Guide on how to dry or dry clothes, such as hanging to dry or laying them flat to dry. Incorrect drying methods may also cause problems such as deformation of clothes. For example, if a sweater is hung on a hanger to dry, it may be deformed due to gravity. The appropriate method is to lay it flat to dry.2

  • Execute standard annotation:For example, GB/T8685-2008 "Identification of Fiber Content of Textiles" and GB/T14272-2021 "Instructions for Use of Consumer Products - Instructions for Use of Textiles and Clothing" need to be marked, which shows that the product meets the requirements of relevant industry standards2

  • Other necessary information marking

    • Manufacturer's name and address:This helps consumers find the responsible party when there is a problem with the product2

    • Product number or specification: It is convenient for consumers to choose the product size and other information that suits them2

    • Security Category: Ensure consumers understand the safety aspects of the product, such as whether it meets certain safety standards, which is especially important for textiles that come into direct contact with the skin, such as underwear2

2. Washing standards for down products

  • Down content or down content labeling:The new national standard stipulates different proportions of down content, such as 95%, 90%, 85%, 80%, 75%, 70%, 50%, etc. Consumers can understand the down content of down products through this value. The higher the down content, the better the warmth retention.1

  • Correlation between gram weight and warmth retention (for down products)

    • Lightweight: 40 g - 80 g.

    • Medium and long: 160 g - 260 g.

    • Long/thick: 200g - 380g. And a reference value of 550 - 650 (average) is given, which helps consumers choose down products with different warmth levels according to their needs.1

  • Down type labeling (duvet): Down quilts should be labeled with a down content of no less than 50%, and the cleanliness level (greater than or equal to 500 mm) should also be marked, so that consumers can clearly understand the quality indicators of down quilts.1

3. Design standards for wash labels

  • Shape and color:The new national standard washing label adopts a rectangular design, with white characters on a blue background, marked with the words washing label, and marked GB/T27297 - 2012 below1

  • Detailed washing information labeling: Detailed information such as washing temperature, washing time, number of washes, drying method, ironing temperature, etc. should be marked. This allows consumers to fully understand the correct washing and care methods for the product and avoid damage to the product due to improper operation
